Deepwater;
DVD came early (does this happen often?), so I gave it a view. It was labelled as a film noire which is what intrigued me - and that it starred Lucas Black who I quite like. The film itself wasn't that spectacular, to me anyways. I can see it being a hit or miss, with certain audiences. Things I noticed were the look of the film. It looks late eighties-to-ninties -ish. There was also some heavy aliasing and colorization problems with the video, and it's the first film I've watched in fullscreen in a LONG time that hasn't been on a TV station. That, along with Lucas' characters accent, gave this film a certain feel. Reminded me a little of Sling Blade - which Lucas also appears in, coincidentally.
The characters in the film certainly are pretty cool. Some gave me the chills simply because we are so in mystery through the entire film.
If you like mafia-ish, mysterious, older-feeling feelings - check it out. A nice b-movie that, despite it's budget, looks quite good.
