hell no man !
some of my favorite movies are old school romantic comedies and i'm more than happy to chat about them here ..
i pity anyone (or just blame it on youth) who sticks to the horror genre alone - that would be pathetic.
Titanic was just a bloated mess for me .. i didnt approach the film not wanting to like it - i just let it happen and it really hit me the wrong way ...
i didnt have fun, or find it clever ...
i think i feel the way about it that you do about a lot of the UK stuff you feel misrepresents your part of the world ..
well - in a way - but different
like Miami Vice .. i know at least 3 britts who rushed out to get those boxsets (you zwoti and our old bearded pal) and absolutely dig those shows ... when i always found them to be an embarrasment.
(i did like The Sweeny though )
for a guy who values risk taking in film i'm suprised you liked this one at all

I don't know,
Titanic just sails along in its own inoffensive and blockbusting way. Of course it's riddled with trite Hollywood ideals and innacurate historical interpretations (guess some relatives linked to the ship might find this offensive), but unlike the challenging elements of underground exploitation cinema this can be enjoyed without the need to 'confront' the film.
I'll defend any man's right to switch off (no not the TV, comedians) and gaze idly at the box for a few hours while digesting his Christmas lunch - gimme
Titanic over
Harry Cunting Potter or
Pearl Harbour any day.
Standout scenes: the ship going down, it breaking in two, the unfortunates crashing down and bouncing like ragdolls, and, especially, the eerie 'graveyard' where everyone is dead and floating.
Miami Vice is quality for its occasionally meaty storylines, cool music (where are you now Mr Hammer?) and nice atmospherics by Michael Mann.
The Sweeney is classic hardboiled British cop drama, like
The Professionals (before it went a bit soft) and
Juliet Bravo.
Er... scratch that last one...
:D
