zombie and the beast of bray road
over the weekend i watched fulci's "zombie" and the low-budget werewolf flick, "the beast of bray road." i was a little disappointed w/ zombie, probably b/c there is a lot of hype surrounding this movie. for the time period the gore affects were pretty decent (the eye impaling scene is classic). and the scene where the zombie battled the bull shark is insane (i hope they paid that actor good money b/c he could have been killed). other than that the movie lacked in the acting department (the dubbing added to that) and the plot was a little thin. the nudity helped add some filler, but didn't improve the movie any. you do have to acknowledge this movie as a zombie classic and in the end the gore and steady camera work make this a good watch.
"the beast of bray road," is an effective werewolf movie b/c it knows what it is: a low budget creature flick. it wasn't scary but had a good mix of blood, gore, and nudity (all things you expect from this kind of movie). the werewolf was a guy in a suit which looked like a cross between big foot and the wolf man. i was surprised by the end of the movie which catches you off guard. all in all it was a fun campy horror movie, worth a rent even if you're not a big fan of the genre.
