The Hills Have Eyes (06);
Just like The Devil's Rejects was the best horror movie of 2005, The Hills Have Eyes will probably gain that same title for 2006. Both films are proof that the horror genre has not fell in to the shadows of death unlike some may think. There are those few who give the genre a glimmer of hope. Rob Zombie & Alexandre Aja - Easily two of my favourite directors, and if you've seen either of these films... you can tell why. I'm glad major studios are recognizing this, and providing a budget for both to work with. Speaking of Ron - I'm estactic for his reinivision of Halloween. I can see it being very pleasing.
I don't want to ruin this film for anyone, so I won't go to into detail with what goes on. I will say it features a great soundtrack - just like TDR - and damn, it's main theme, California Dreaming, sure gets stuck in your head. Along with the soundtrack goes the main directing and photography. Both literally mindblowing. This is one of the best looking horror movies to come out recently, or at anytime - really. I'm a fan of those thought-out, connecting, shiny bells-and-wistles type movies. And this is definately one of them.
Another thing I'd like to mention was how Alexandre has proven himself to be a "master" of tension. His first film was called High Tension, after all. It certain envokes an atmopshere, and it is geniuenly creepy and a definite edge-of-your-seat film. Oh, and Sam - this is a movie we can both agree is good. It is relentless in what it shows, and it's all so beautifully done. The characters are covered head to toe in blood, even those alive (*snicker*)... I can just see Alexandre at the casting meeting. Dumping the stars with blood, and licking his lips. They sure look good in all that blood, kind of wierd to say that... but's its true. In both his films, it ends up happening - and I'm a fan.
The characters of the "american hero" and Ruby shone in my eyes. Ruuuby <3. Such a likable mutant... and what she did, wow. Made the film... okay, it would still be rgeat without it. Made it better... more like it.
The ending I wasn't sure would work... as I didn't know there was a twist. I thought to myself "How will this end?". But since a sequel is in possible nogiations, I should have known a twist was present. And it's a good twist at that. Simple, but damned good.
Okay, enough cock-sucking on this film. It's good, five stars, I reccomend it, and don't even watch the original after this - it's bad already, but this just make sit look pathetic.
Can't see why some horror fans don't like this, or think it's just "okay". Alex, I'd marry you if you were gay and willing to move to Canada. :) And I dion't even know what you look like. Hehe.
