There is the usual requisite of several flouncing homosexuals in this year's UK Big Brother.

Diversity....

"What's the problem?" some might ask.

Well like my mother used to say, why must some gay men (and women for that matter) use their sexuality as a weapon and - pardon me - persistently ram it down people's throats? If it is in defiance of prejudice or constant celebration, surely this is counter-productive as it soon provokes distaste and irritation among the predominantly normal-sexed masses who don't generally feel the need for such theatrically over-the-top trumpeting of their sexuality. Last year's BB series is a prime example, as anyone who witnessed the alarming breakdown of an insufferably whiny young gay man who sexually pestered a straight man to the point of social collapse will testify. Would this happen the other way around?

Granted, every participant both gay and straight in shows like this is a vaccuous self-absorbed black hole of personality existing entirely on the surface - so are we seeing the extreme ends of the spectrum, in terms of humanity, imagination, philosophy, ethics, morals and... sexuality? Why would the quiet and reserved gay man not be invited to star in the show?

It's a genuine question - any gay forum members like to comment?
