*HUGE SPOILERS, PLEASE STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THIS YET!!*

I'll admit that I had pretty high expectations for this one, and surprisingly enough it didn't let me down at all. Even better than I was expecting to be honest. Though the plot was the classic slasher plot about a car breaking down in the middle of nowhere, there were some very surprising twists and turns. McLean took the typical formula for these flicks and followed it for awhile to lure the viewer into a false sense of security, meaning making us think we know what's about to happen. Then he takes the formula, drops it on the ground, and proceeds to mercilessly pound the crap out of it. For example, it's not very often in this kind of film to see the main girl turned into "a head on a stick" so close to the end. That death was pretty cool, by the way, and totally unexpected. The actors were all very believable, I like how we had half to movie to get to know them before the carnage began. As for John Jaratt...Id rather see a character like Mick over another Myers clone any day. Totally insane, but still believable and well-acted. The really liked the tiered ending...how just when you though one of them was getting away BANG there's Mick. The crucifixion of Ben, as well as his eventual escape, was a harrowing, brutal, and all-around great scene. Overall, this was a great horror flick. Though it certainly owes a lot to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I really enjoyed it.

8.5/10
