I wouldn't say you'd have to like poker to like it though. Like you said, it's really well acted and it's not only about poker. Well I didn't say you have to like poker to like the film, just that if you're not into poker then it might bore you a bit. Like you said it's not all about poker but unlike Rudy in which they barely even display a field, poker is all throughout the movie. So you might like it, it's just that when the frequent poker scenes pop up ya might be a little lost for a moment.
It's like you're watching a movie that involves football but isn't completely about football and you come up on a scene of practice. Coach is walking around talking about pulling guards,hitch and go,cover 2 ect. ect. Someone not into football would be a little lost on that particular scene, that's all I was trying to imply.
