Coming to the HDC forums and making the first post was actually rather frightening for me, not so much because regulars might start bashing me than the feeling of stepping into a room where everybody is gathered in their own groups and are already familiar with one another.
As much as I have noticed that many people get bashed because of their posts, there is another reason that I can think of, which may contribute to people leaving as quickly as they come.
When replying to posts, I've noticed people starting up conversations that are only ever understood by those in the know. Those who've been around here awhile. Those who know the "secret handshake," as it were.
I think this can easily alienate others, and make them feel unwelcome. Like outsiders. While some might take that as a challenge to initiate the interaction of getting to know old members better, others may simply make up their minds to leave.
Just a thought.
