KING KONG (the Jackson remake) -- total cinematic experience. Whatever your criticisms, you gotta admit they gave it all they had!
Second place: THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE
I expected a cheap rip-off here. No way. Nice formula. Very well done. The dialogue rang true. Lots of subtle thrills. If you say you want a movie that doesn't rely on special effects, this is it.
