... the pig wallows in its own waste .. way back in the day it would commonly have a worm (i think it's simply called pork worm) and other diseases .. (trichonosis ?? spelling ??) could be had by eating pork.
Most ancient beliefs have foundations in health safety. It often required the word of god to steer them in the right directions.
