Cheers to another Sony Whore ;) - I think they are great, never had a problem with any Sony EQ - And everyone knows Bose kicks ass.

Toshiba TVs are great purchases too. Done research and they are right up there. A friend of mine has one too and it's great. I am very jealous of the three 12 inch subs. That has to be a literal blast. can't imaging what ID4 would sound like.

Satellite is very worth it.

Cable (at least in the San Francisco Bay Area) does not offer high resolution TV, HDTV, or Dolby Digital. Cable is always running ads saying their equipment is upgradeable unlike satellite because they provide the receiver, but they never update anything. Pissed me off too cause they just string the customer along while raising their rates.

Cable also target advertise old people by saying the dish looks ugly on your house, is hard to place, and will blow down. If I lived in blizzard country or the windy city, that might be a concern, but here in SF we don't have storms like that to blow the dish off alignment. And with TiVo, even if the dish was out of alignment during a storm, you will still have plenty of TV to watch on that dark rainy night. I personally have never had the dish go out of alignment. Best of all, Satellite is cheaper than cable here.

If you go satellite, get a TiVo integrated receiver ($100). People say they don't watch enough TV or they aren't home enough to really warrant satellite. That's what TiVo is for. While you're at work or asleep, TiVo will search out your favorite shows and save them on its hard drive for you to watch when you want. Thanks to TiVo I've seen a lot of unusual horror that I don't see in the video stores. (Get Sundance and the Independent Movie Channel - they show rare artsy horror).

People who don't have TiVo don't usually understand it. I try to explain it, but they just don't get it until they see it for themselves. They think it's a glorified VCR, but once you go TiVo you'll never go back. It's also healthier TV because you never have to watch another commercial again. 30 minute shows are just 20 minutes without commercials so you can see more TV that you really want to see.

No, I don't work for TiVo or DirecTV (actually - once I upgrade my TV to HDTV I might consider switching to VOOM Satellite, They have a 24/7 horror channel (uncut, gory, no commercials, willing to show Evil Dead or even Dead Alive) in HDTV, not to mention they offer more HDTV than any other provider - they are expensive though).

Sorry if this is off horror topic - to me it's not. I started collecting horror on VHS and all I had was my TV (same one I have now) and a crappy VCR. I started getting into Widescreen releases of Horror on VHS which were not that many then. I wanted to see the entire picture the director meant for us to see. Once DVD came out I was hooked. Then I needed to HEAR the horror as it was meant to be heard so then came 5.1. My A/V passion stemmed from Horror.
