We don't know whether or not there was a beginning to the universe. How does that make sense? How could there have been a time without it, and if it always existed... There will always be things that don't make sense, not everything fits perfectly into place.
"Monsters" are freaks of nature, an unnatural thing or person that is extremely unusual and not like any other of its type. There's really no reason why they couldn't fly, teleport etc. A Vampires very existence goes against nature.
