Suspending your disbelief

There are very few horror movies that would work if people behaved normally, and the laws of nature weren't blatantly ignored.

Where i can appreciate these re. understanding why they are
neccessary it still makes me appreciate the movies that pay a bit of attention to reality. Most of these movies would end in the 1st 10 minutes because they just arent smart enough to survive without liberal amounts of bullshit.

vampires are a pretty good example of what i mean.

1) they are super strong. So what makes them strong ?
there are law of physics and anatomy that determine strength.
They are still flesh and blood .. the same tissues, muscles, etc.
(they bleed when they get cut - you kill them with wood through the heart).
You can make someone appear stronger by cutting off their pain sensors .. but all they are doing is ignoring the body's natural alarm system for impending damage. Sooner or later things break.

2) they can fly ... how ? they get super light ? how do they aim themselves ? How do theyt stop ??

3) they can shape shift. A 150 lb man into a litle bat ?
You cant change density ... if you could it would be a 150 lb bat.

I'be already mentioned a couple of other pet peeves in different threads ...

1) slashers ... the killer that can shuffle faster than a running youth.

2) thrillers ... the evil genious carries out a cat and mouse plan with the police so dependant on the perfection of timing .. and someone smart enought to recognize and solve clues.
In the real world these things wouldn't work.

Here's another ... there is a killer on the loose .. 10 school friends have been slaughtered ... the girl hears a noise outside in the middle of the night but she puts on a robe lying on the bed (who does that ??) and goes out on the porch to look around, leaving the door wide open with plenty of room for a marching brass band to sneak into the house behind her.

I'm probably the only person who thinks about this ever ...
most times i can just sit back and enjoy - but other times i just shake my head wishing for a little common sense .. which to me causes me to buy into the film more .. become more immersed ... therefore its more enjoyable for me
