Man Burned Alive In Acapulco

Acapulco, Mexico - A 28-year-old man died after being doused with gasoline and set on fire in a crime-stricken neighborhood in the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco.

Authorities on Tuesday said the victim, who died quickly from severe burns, had been identified by his wife.

The killing took place on the western outskirts of Acapulco, 180 miles (290 kms) south-southwest of Mexico City, in a zone where armed robberies by gang members are common.

Witnesses said a group of youths carried out the burning and that nobody intervened.

Police said they were investigating whether gang members were involved.

"This is what we are looking into -- whom we are dealing with and who are the people doing these bad things," city prosecutor Pedro Loyo said.
