For Geeks Onwy

At the end of "The Matrix," the humans use the EMP to knock out the squiddies that are attacking the ship. There is a wide shot showing the EMP waves emanating from the ship and towards the virtual "camera" (this is a CG shot, so the camera is virtual). As the EMP waves hit the squiddies, they get knocked out--and when the waves finally reach the "camera," the screen goes black. I interpret this to mean that the virtual camera "filming" this scene is a video camera (and not a film camera, which could conceivably be wholly mechanical, i.e., non-electrical). This seems to be a hip "techno-joke" making a nod at the future of cinema being digital video.

It's very funny--and very GEEKY!
