Yes, LEATHERFACE is somewhat underappreciated (certainly in the UK, where it was unavailable for many years - and only recently released fully uncut).

The night-time setting makes for a nice atmosphere after the daylight in TCM, and the new family are sadistic enough to lift this way above the kind of trash released in 1990.

Also, TCM4: THE NEXT GENERATION has lots more going for it than its detractors allow - again there is an unsettling air about the family, and the "terror" that defines TCM movies is present and correct throughout.

Granted, the film is more-or-less a remake of the original, but is far superior to the recent "re-imagining" (or whatever) and it's fun to see stars Matthew McCaughtney and Rene Zellweger conspiciously omit any reference to it from their now glossy filmographies.

TCM2 was a bit strange though, with none of the above qualities apart from the rather nasty hammer attack... and the saving grace of nutty Dennis Hopper.
