Trampoline Impalement
Boy Impaled On Metal Stake
9-Year-Old Falls Off Trampoline
CAMANCHE, Iowa -- An eastern Iowa boy is recovering after falling off a neighbor's trampoline -- and getting impaled on a metal stake.
Jason Curtis, 9, of Camanche, was injured on Tuesday. He was jumping on the trampoline when he lost his balance and fell backwards, landing on a five-foot-long stake that was in the ground.
It entered Jason's chest through his left armpit, narrowly missing the lungs, heart and arteries as it tried, but failed, to push its way out his back near his shoulder blade, just an inch from his spine.
Curtis said he pulled himself up and the stake pulled itself out.
He was taken to a Clinton hospital for tests and to combat the risk of infection.
