When I was in school, I remember ordering the "squished dead rat" and "cut-off ear" props from Fangoria magazine. One afternoon, I brought the rat to school and placed it beneath the open cover of the teacher's textbook while she was out in the hall (this was 9th grade physical science). Anyway, class begins and she comes in to move her textbook and SCREAMS when she sees the rat (complete with dangling intestines). Suffice it to say, she took that up.

Next day, I tried the cut-off ear. Unfortunately, the teacher was wise to me at this time. She simply peeked under her textbook and said: "And here we have a hairy ear."

She took that, too.

Luckily I got both back at the end of the week.

Stuff I take from my students:

Cell phones, mostly. They sit in class and text-message like there's no tomorrow. They're not even supposed to have them in the school.

Took up a trick lighter once that gives some sucker a shock when he tries to light it. I played with that all day before returning it to the student the next day.

Ballcaps. Tons and tons of ballcaps. They're not allowed on school campus.

Took up a small, rubber basketball today. They were bouncing it at each other. Turned out it was one of my 10th grader's baby's toys.

A self-inflating whoopee cushion. That one was fun to play with too.

Laser-light pens. Those aren't so common, but they're annoying as hell when they come out.

Never had a student wearing an unacceptable shirt, though I had to send several girls to the office for wearing extremely short skirts or showing too much cleavage.

That's all I can think of right now.

:D
