First of all, the collection is optional. No one is forcing anyone to put any money in the basket. (I don't, due to the fact that I simply can not afford it. I scrape by each month to my bills.)
Second of all, the Pope does not get that money, it generally goes to routine church upkeep and maintenance.
Third, if those people do those things and then go to church, that doesn't mean they will go to heaven. (In Catholicism for sure, maybe other religions within Christianity too, but I'm not positive about them.) They need to confess their sins. Simply going to church does not accomplish that.

i get my info from mormons, witnesses, and catholics ive talked to. havent met to many christians though. actually i did meet a christian in college and did a couple bible studys with her. only 2-3 though
1) yes collectoin is optional however in catholic tradition, not so much now, but in the past was to forgive your sins.
2) so how does the Pope live the wya he does? he doesnt exactly live in a trailor.... perhaps he takes up stock??
3) and dont try to get me on little technicalities. going to church, going to church to confess sins.. not much of a difference.. at least in catholic fiath all you have to do is communion (eat the bread) which is the same thing.
