Well, IMO, the greatest horror films were made first in that whole Dracula-Wolfman-Frankenstein era and then in the Vertigo-Birds Hitchcock era and then in the 1970s-1990s Leatherface-Michael-Jason-Freddy era.
After that, there's a huge dip with a bunch of random and mostly mediocre spook/scare-flicks like Candyman, Carrie II, Mothman (etc.).
However, there're are a few gems even after or somewhat before 2010 that don't remind us tasteless corn scare films like
I Spit on Your Grave (anyone seen that one?), such as
Urban Legend (

It (
LINK), and
Jeepers Creepers (
LINK).
I'd recommend avoiding 21st Century pure disasters such as the horrible and shocking
Bloody Murder (
LINK) and the equally-morbid if not as 'bizarre'
Cucuy (
LINK).
They should make a definitive horror-cinema guidebook, right??
