The Visit -
The trailer for this was very good. And I heard a few comments about it being a return to good M. Night Shyamalan movies. Although now thinking about it, I think he only has like one or two good movies. He's pretty much the master of getting people to watch his movies for the twist. I did think The Visit was an ok movie though. If you said it was made by a first time director or as a film school project, I would say it's a very good movie. But a movie by an established Hollywood director? It's kind of a let down then. Even the twist is kind of small compared to what you might be thinking from the trailer and during the movie. Actually one of the best parts is thinking about all the scenes with the grandparents and then how obvious the twist is afterwards because of their behavior.
Unnatural -
I think someone here reviewed this movie. They said it was bad. I looked at the short run time and it is a snow horror movie, which I like. So I thought why not? But this is one of those movies that even though short seem long because they are so bad and boring. There are really only a few good scenes in the movie and they all involve the bikini girls. This is a movie that I'm sure if anyone likes horror movies and knows the good ones, if they read the Unnatural script, they would have said rewrite this mess or definitely not gone on to produce it. I guess some of the cast is good but I assume they just needed a paycheck. There is also something I've never seen at the end of this movie. The credits have a "Very Special Thanks" at the end with names in big text. Larger than the actors names I think. I guess these people helped finance the movie and really wanted to work with Hollywood people. But I guess they didn't know good horror movies as if they read the script they would not have funded this movie.
Eli Roth Double Feature
The Green Inferno -
I was looking forward to this one and it was even more out there than I thought it was going to be. I remmeber when I was young thinking there was a very dangerous and maybe even sinister element to those natives at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I always called them "Naked Booty Men." Well here we get to see it. This is a shocking horror movie. I'm surprised it didn't get beyond an R rating. I haven't seen the original movie that inspired this one yet. I will eventually. But this is the best horror movie from Eli Roth that I've seen. It's not something I would own. But it's very worth a watch for horror fans.
Aftershock -
I was surprised to see almost the same cast in this movie. I guess they filmed Aftershock and Green Inferno close together or some kind of deal was in place. When I checked the wiki I was also surprised to find out this movie was based on actual events. Which is sickening when you get towards the end of the movie. I didn't like this one that much. With The Green Inferno, there was more setup and storyline. Here it's just people on vacation and disaster strikes. I didn't like the group of characters they portrayed here and even more disgusting characters show up later in the movie. There was only one character I liked and they gave her a skeleton in her closet to make her not what she seemed. Or at least give her a reason to be like that. It's like the movie has a anti-humanity or other theme going on right down to its ending which I hated. It's a true downer movie to me and I would only watch this one if you like those city disaster type movies.
