I have to agree. The Walking Dead is a good show due to acting, sets/locations, and story. The walking dead could be gangs of violent people or dangerous walking mushrooms. I wonder how easy it would be, though, to sustain dread and uneasiness with each episode. The Killing sort of did, but it wasn't horror.
American Horror Story is just bad and not horror. True Blood isn't horror most of the time, just a drama tv show except taking various aspects to more and more extremes. The first season small, the last much much bigger. A couple of X-files episodes were horror, but not part of a consistent story. Friday the 13th the Series was often horror, but no consistent story. So it was just like having a different horror short each week. Penny Dreadful is an amazing show, but there's no dread to it.
Though there was that one british show about people being turn to stone I think? And if you touched the stone you'd get a shock of who the person was. That was fairly creepy.
