CANNIBAL KILLER SHOT AND ATE TEENAGER

A TRIPLE killer who shot a teenager while high on drugs and later ate part of his body has been found guilty of murder.

Schizophrenic Marc Sappington, 25, claimed that voices ordered him to kill 16-year-old Alton 'Fred' Brown Jr and dismember his corpse.

He later cooked and ate part of Brown's leg.

In a filmed confession shown to the court in Kansas, Sappington said the voices told him he had to eat flesh and blood or he would die.

His defence lawyer told the court Sappington had suffered from schizophrenia since the age of 16.

She said: 'He was in a struggle from a very early age between good and evil.

'He thought this was something he was commanded to do.'

Sappington, who admitted to taking the hallucinogenic drug PCP at the time of the killing, was also convicted of the murders of Terry Green, 25 and Michael Weaver Jr, 22, in a four-day killing spree in April 2001.

In his video confession, Sappington talked about killing Green and leaving his body in a car.

He then admitted to stabbing Weaver to death and shooting Brown in the back.

Jurors found him guilty on the murder charges as well as charges of kidnapping and aggravated burglary stemming from a separate carjacking.

The court was told Sappington's family had a history of mental illness.

His mother had suffered from schizophrenia for most of her son's life, the jury heard.

But prosecutors say it was his drug use - and not his mental illness - that led Sappington to hear voices.

They are seeking three consecutive terms of 50 years without possibility of parole.

Sappington will be sentenced in three or four weeks.
