The Movie Creatures/Monsters Tournament

We have had 2-3 versions of this before, but almost all of them focused on films from the 90s and 2000s. With so many classic horror films and giant-monster films of the vintage era (30s, 40s, 50s), it was always a glaring injustice to them when they got excluded.

Not to mention the biggest name of them all - Ray Harryhausen, who literally brought the giant monsters invading into our screens.

This time, I am hoping to bring all of them together in the same space, and see which one actually dominates and rules all of them in movie history.

This will also be a part ode to the genius of Harryhausen, so expect to see a lot of him, classic monsters and the rampagers from Japan from the classic/golden era.

Could it be Godzilla? Or King Kong? The Rhedosaurus?

Maybe the Giant Ants from Them? The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms?

Or The Queen Alien? Harryhausen's Kraken or Medusa, maybe?

Mothra? The Blob? The Thing?

You shall decide.

I have a long list of recs ready. Apart from the usual, if you want one of your unsung favorite monster/creature in this, go ahead and post.

This will start later in the day.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are the obvious: Godzilla and Mothra, King Kong, etc.

If I think of any obscure "giants", I'll let you know.

I am seriously excited about this.:D

Is bigfoot in it?

neverending 06-15-2011 05:57 AM

The Giant Claw, of course!

This sounds awesome

Bring them on!

I'm only thinking of this cause I rec'd it in another thread, but is Python's Jabberwocky in there?

What about the Minotaur from Time Bandits?

What about the garbage disposal monster from Star Wars?

The Giant Squid from Disney's 20,000 Leagues...?

What about that truly horrifying creature from The Land that Time Forgot, you know the really slimy one with the weird yellow hair and the bad FX that made it look like a cardboard cutout? I think it might've been called Doug McClure:)

Much appreciated. Think of the ones which I might have missed.

My replies in bold, Tony.

For tourney purposes, I was thinking of limiting the number to 243. My list right now has gone up to 256 so it might need some trimming. Or, if we get more good recs, we might need to stretch the number and have a qualifying round. Let's see.

Keep them coming, folks.

How about the crabs from Attack Of The Crab Monsters? I love those googly eyed freaks.
