The Most Annoying Commercial

Good grief, there are so many of them, but this one takes the prize at the moment. As a New Yorker, I am sickened. The bald white guy in particular is a pompous ass:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gInOA9LmdiE

The commercial you posted definitely take a P for pompous. I wonder if they actually sold any newspapers with that or just pissed people off.

Judging from the comments on youtube, I would pick the latter.

In case anyone wonders how wealthy, pro-business conservative politicians could convince the lower-middle class that the liberals are the ones out of touch with the common man, you need look no further than this commercial.

Yes it seams a bit idiotic to make a controversial which is so stuck up as to be sure to alienate a very, very large portion of whoever sees it. I know I have seen commercials where I have said to myself that I am definitely not going to buy that product since the controversial is so insanely stupid, and that really have to be against the purpose of the commercial.

I don't know. I agree that the people in that advert are pretentious tools but I think news generally seems to be easy-access tabloid rubbish or intellectual that you usually have to make a conscious effort to read and appreciate.

In England there are the terrible newspapers such as The Sun and The Daily Mail and then there are the higher quality ones like The Guardian and The Independent. The former are easy to read, have eyecatching headlines and give away free stuff almost every day. The latter are easy to dismiss because they don't appear interesting on a most basic level. I guess if you want people to read quality journalism there has to be a level of aspiration in the marketing. The general public aren't going to magically become interested in real news and I'd rather see this than a quality newspaper lower themselves to appeal to the common dunce.

That said, that particular advert totally lacks subtlety and is just badly made.

Goodness I hate and truly despise all adverts to the point now where I record tv shows and films so I can watch them later and fast forward the ads. However even the fake opera singer's multitude of ads has been inescapable with people singing along to him on the bus-UK people will know exactly what I mean. I'm sorry I can't post a youtube clip and give the company any oxygen of publicity.

My problem is that there are commercials and adverts everywhere, in the mailbox, in my mail, on my phone on my TV, on YouTube videos, everywhere you look there is that damned commercial and I just go nuts over it. It is like one can not take one single step without someone pestering you to buy something.

I was wondering about that, how are one fluent it three sections of a newspaper? Is that like being psychic, you know what will be in that section of the newspaper before you see it, like in that old TV series Early Edition?
