My rat had a stroke

Yup, pretty much similar to the human equivalent.
One side has lost any kind of equilibrium and I think he might have lost some of his vision.
It's been an interesting process to observe, but I feel very sorry for him all the same...looking at him not really knowing what was going on.
He's a trooper though, still has his appetite on him, and has kind of sturdied himself and isn't freaking out as much, spending time with the other rat, even grooming him...not withdrawn or anything, and still sees/smells well enough to be hand fed...no kind of behaviour associated with ongoing pain.
I'll just have to take a bit more care of the guy now.
Will shortly take him to the vet all the same, even though they'll probably advise on just giving up, which I'm not about to.
If he's not in pain, and still enjoys his life and the company around him, as long as he can still get into and out of his bed and feed himself then he's fine by me, and I don't care if he walks like a bit of a drunkard.
I am VERY impressed by his heart and his adaptability, he has taken this in stride and I'm proud of him.

Just thought I'd share that random news.

Sorry to hear that. I think you're doing the right thing; as long as he isn't suffering and as long as you're willing to take extra care of him I don't see any reason to put him to sleep. Good luck.

I am an asshole most of the time but have a big heart when it comes to animals(as they are mostly better than humans).

Hope all is well with the little guy. Maybe try blowing him a hit or 2 if hes in pain.

The little guy died about a week ago.
Though he was still...relatively...healthy and active up until that point, he died in a sleeping position. Was eating and spending lots of time with his friend up until his death, so at least he had a little more time to chill and showed no signs of pain or withdrawal.

So sorry to hear it, man. ._.

At least know in your heart that you did everything you could and that he lived his last days in comfort.
