Sex and Horror

Sex and Horror have been linked together for years and may forever be that way, but I have to ask a question. Have you felt that sex has ever ruined a horror movie? Its not always a bad thing especially if it has some deep down psychological meaning in the film, but sometimes I feel it really hurts the seriousness of the film or takes away from the story when they try to interject the two.

Your thoughts?

In a word: no. When paired with violence, sex almost always has a meaning. It juxtaposes the impulse to create with the impulse to annhilate.

True, but in certain movies it feels almost like cheap exploitation with no connection. With psycho during the shower scene it was placed well with good timing, but when you take the idea that sometimes it is in there to keep the movie from being too depressing, it kind of feels like copping out in those instances. I do enjoy your feed

You say exploitation like that's a bad thing...

I think, depending on who's behind the camera, that it could be good or bad. Not going to say that I don't enjoy exploitation flicks, but some it is just bad in every sense of the word.

No, only by lack thereof.

You ask this, but have given no example of it ruining a specific movie. Is this just a random thought, or did it actually ruin one for you? If so, what movie?

Sex and fear/disgust is a good mix, but it can get a little out of hand sometimes. The sex scenes in Rob Zombie's Halloween just pissed me off, but then again so did the entire movie.

I hate sex scenes in movies...
