Problem confirmed.

So I made a thread just a little while ago about bandwidth DL usage being a bit fucked up, right?
It's confirmed.
Yesterday apparently I downloaded 8gb, yet all I did was browse, deliberately not downloading a thing.
Today I've apparently downloaded over 1.2gb yet, to further this "test", the pc has been on all night and the net has not been used, the modem was left on and that's all...

So, today I'm contacting the police to actually get them to pursue the matter, because essentially it comes down to theft, and I assume they've got a half decent IT guy that's able to track where problems like this come from, at least to the point they can be eradicated - if not to serve charges.

So I have Avira running, also spybot.
Last night I ran a full scan since the pc was going to be on anyways, and it seemed to have found 2 "suspicious" items it considered malware.
Perhaps this was part of the problem, but it must've originated somewhere, right?
I mean it's not sending much out, it's DOWNLOADING so...I assume this has to benefit someone.

Is there any other programs you guys can reco that can actually IDENTIFY foreign systems/machines accessing my connection?
I don't even give a fuck as to the outcome here, I just want it stopped.

Man that sucks. I thought most of this type of thing went on with wireless modems. Now I'm kinda paranoid because my bandwidth seems to be just disappearing a lot quicker than what I'm using.

Interested to know how it all works out.

cheebacheeba 08-03-2009 06:16 PM

Yeah I assumed it'd predominately be a wireless thing too....quite confusing.
I'll keep you posted with what happens.

Wouldn't mind some recos on some applications that can stop it from happening again though. Anyone?

cheebacheeba 08-16-2009 05:53 AM

...and problem solved.
Wireless had been set to auto-on.
We didn't even know we had it.
DODGY isp tried to sell us a wireless thingy as well as the modem which is why.
After all those possibilities, some fucker was jacking my downloads 'cos when you don't think you have wireless YOU DON'T SET UP WEP/WPA security.
Fuck dammit...see what asshole lack of info in the guise of "helping", while really just trying to push more wares on ya does?
Thanks, ya stupid ISP asses.

As for the asshole stealing downloads...I wouldn't have even minded if it was to browse or to not be completely fuckheaded thieving bitchface about it...

So yeah, turned it off through some website thing...problem resolved.

Yeah - I really couldn't see how you had problem without some sort of wireless connection. So was you neighbour or something downloading movies etc?

cheebacheeba 08-17-2009 04:39 AM

Dunno, didn't track it...
Right now though, knowing how dissapointed they'll be after losing their goldmine, is enough.

I move out of my flat to head back to Oz in 5 days, I'm abuseing the shit out of my unlimited downloads until then...
