Horror Comedy Books - Any suggestions?
I'm looking for something a bit light to read. Not "light" as in "easy" per se, but something with a bit of humor in it...
I'm a huge fan of Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series (have read the first one a few times) and I am also a fan of the self-deprecating pseudo-autobiographical writings of David Sedaris. Both of these men are absolute wordsmiths who are able to weave humor into series subject matter (well, in Adams' case, it's more just a damn good scifi story - not sure if I'd pin him as "serious" though). In the realm of fantasy I've tried Terry Pratchett, but have only gotten through the first Discworld book; it was pitched to me as the Douglas Adams of fantasy, but I found it more fantasy than comedy... And just silly and not as intellectual. But enough rambling. Are there any well-written erudite horror comedy writers out there? Something smart, funny and gory at the same time? Does horror comedy even exist as a form of literature? Any suggestions? Thank you for your recommendations in advance. :) |
Doctor Identity by D. Harlan Wilson. You'll really dig it. Also, check out the Magazine of Bizarro Fiction. There's a Bizarro Western story, a piece inspired by Takashi Miike, a pornographic satire on Scooby Doo and a 6,000 word story by yours truly about a tough-as-nails teddy bear detective in a weird neopulp landscape. It includes a knock down drag out fight in a marshmallow factory. Right up your alley, trust me.

I'll definitely have to check those out. I see that the book is available at one of my local libraries. :)

I laughed my ass off through the first half of Kings "Dreamcatcher". Too bad rest of the book sucked a little..

try reading ; "Mystery at the Moonlight Casino", it's got gore, vampires, werewolves, it's creepy, but is packed with a lot of dark humor...however it's also erotic.

Give mine a try. It's pretty gory but there is some humor in there.
