Gonna need a new job

So anyone that knows me has heard me complain about my job, well the shit has litterally hit the fan. For a while we've all had people in the offices to give us a heads up when something stupid was about to happen. "Cash your check fast, we're short on payroll." or "Be ready, they didn't pay the electric bill/cable bill/water bill" whatver.

We never lost water or power (surprisingly) but the cable and internet were always an issue. A hotel full of people that all want to check their email at the same time can be an ugly thing. Most of our housekeeping was functionally retarded at best, and after a few office layoffs, they were the next in line for the hatchet. I think we have like three housekeepers left.

The restaurant had most of the kitchen equipment repossessed because they stopped paying the supply company the leased it from. Same thing with the guest coffee station, the repossessed the coffee maker. We have to use a regular 12 cup coffee pot and most of the people here can't make coffee if it's not in pre-measured pouches and refuse to read directions. Idiots!

We caught wind from someone in the offices about two months ago, that the bank was going to take us over and maybe shut us down. They took control of the property on Monday. Since then, no one has seen or heard from any manager. We haven't seen anyone from the bank. We just show up, punch in, and seem to be completely unsupervised and forgotten about. The funny thing is, it hasn't changed anything around here one bit.

It's kind of weird to wonder if there is going to be a job for you to do when you get to work every day, or if the doors will be locked. When it happens (maybe tomorrow, maybe not) I won't be surprised, maybe a little disappointed though.

I just wanted to ramble for a while and Rayne has to hear it all the time. At least you guys can stop reading when you get tired of it. :D

That totally sucks.

Are you looking?

Dude Guadalupe 04-08-2009 11:32 PM

I am looking, just not too seriously yet. I know that with my solid work history and the good refrences I will have, I can pretty much move on to any other hotel in the area (maybe not The Hampton or The Hilton). The thing is I don't know if I want to stay in the hotel business, but after 3 1/2 years that's where I have the most experience.

I've been thinking about it a lot and I just don't know yet.

hey I wanna get out of the club business and get into the hotel business, we should trade.

You might want to think seriously. Jobs are not that easy to come by these days.

Dude Guadalupe 04-08-2009 11:59 PM

Not even close. On any given night you get truck drivers, groups of drunk people, crack heads. We've had to have prostitues escorted off the property a few times, a lot of random people off of the interstate.

It's about as far from fancy as you can get and the closest you get to a bellhop would be the guy that drives the airport shuttle...if you're lucky.

That's true, but we haven't really gotten much job loss in my area. My hotel is going under due to mis-management.

That's only because you don't look snooty enough...If you REALLY wanted it, you could cut your hair, lose some weight, and become a stuck-up snob.

HA!...At this point, they're lucky they still have a BELL...It's one of the few things that hasn't been repossessed yet:rolleyes:

Jobs have always been plentiful here...Our biggest 'job market' problem has always been job hoppers (people who work somewhere for a short time, then decide to work somewhere else because they either want to try something new, or are moving up for more money...Kinda difficult to keep employees for long periods of time in any one place)...People are kinda spoiled here in that way, it also causes people not to take their jobs as seriously as they should, because they aren't as concerned about getting fired, and often start out not fully committing themselves to staying in the first place...Funny how an abundance of jobs can actually have a downside - For employers mostly.

Many hotels have to deal with this, especially when you're right off the expressway...People come from all over the WORLD...You never know what you're gonna get...And on Friday and Saturday nights (especially) there will always be drunks...Everywhere...Your hotel (even with its problems) is way better than the one across the street, and you know it.

Actually, the manager did the best she could with what she had to work with, in fact she did far more than she should have had to, BECAUSE of what she had to work with...It's amazing the place is even still open...The OWNER is the one who killed it, wasting all the money the hotel made instead of paying the hotel's bills...He shouldn't have been buying expensive furniture (Remember that $15,000 couch he had delivered last year - when the hotel was being threatened with losing electricity?), flying off to Europe whenever he felt like it (even in the last couple of weeks), running up a $7,000 long distance bill at the hotel on his own private account (that still hasn't been paid), and many, MANY other ridiculous things to waste money...The moron spent recklessly, didn't act responsibly in paying bills, and killed the hotel...ONE person destroyed this hotel...YOU could have managed the hotel finances better than he did, and the hotel would be doing fine now...In fact, ANYONE could have done a better job than he did.
