Tom Cruise and Sam Raimi team-up!

Aug 18, 2008

Now that Tom Cruise is off Edwin A. Salt, and Sam Raimi is off (or so I've heard; yet to be confirmed) the Jack Ryan picture, both guys have teamed up to surmount the imminent trepidation of joblessness.

Cruise and the "Spider-Man" director have teamed to develop a comic book film based on the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic "Sleeper".

Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, "Sleeper," which ran from 2003-05, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery.

The comic a spin-off book from Wildstorm flagship title "WildC.A.T.s" and features characters from another spin-off book, "Gen 13."

This isn't the first time Cruise has expressed interest in playing a comic-book character - he was originally circling "Iron Man". After seeing how much that made in comparison to his own last couple of films, he is regretting not being a part of it now.

If it comes off, Cruise would be contracted to play the hero in a few films.

Yep, Warner's envisioning a franchise here.

Before strapping on the tights, Cruise will star in the Spyglass thriller "Tourist".

Indeed. I can't stand him.

Why? I love his enthusiasm. He seemed so excited to be with Katie Holmes a few years back. Plus, he throws himself into his religion, which is inspiring.

His last several movies have been inspired; war of the worlds could not have been better. I am looking forward to anything involving him.

Jesus fucking christ, that hurt to write. It was an experience similar to swallowing grapes covered in warm pudding. I feel dirty.

As long as he's better than in Tropic Thunder...

Cruise is a member of the ranks that include Jeff Goldblum and Arnold Schwarzenegger of actors who play essentially the same character in every movie. Zero versatility.

At least Jeff and Arnie are fun to watch.

I've only seen Arnold painted blue once, he has versatility!
