Masters of Horror: Haeckel's Tale

If there ia already a thread for this, sorry, the search function is not working...

Anyhow this flick by John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), Mad Dog and Glory (1993), Wild Things (1998)) is splendid, until the end gets silly. It is based upon a tale by Clive Barker, and in my opinion that is not usually a good thing... But this tale is told well, and it is creepy. The sexy Leela Sevasta having sex with her undead husband in the graveyard is actually pretty sexy, simply because Leela is so damn hot. And I liked all the dead guys standing around watching, that was too funny! But then the climax goes over-the-top into the realm of corniness... I had this tale at an A- until the ending drove it down to a C+ or B-...

Yeah this movie was alright.

*SPOILER*

Where that chick is banging the zombie at the end, was sick! :p It was an enjoyable one to watch. I just picked up Pro-life & Family yesterday, looking forward to watching them.

Being in the UK this series doesn't get played much - I have viewed a couple online "Jenifer", "Dreams in a Witch House", "Chocolate" and "Cirgarette Burns".

I think I liked "Cigarette Burns" the best - it was quite well paced for a short. I didn't like "Chocolate" - anyone have any ideas why it happen to the guy? I was a bit disappointed that this wasn't explained. I was a little disturbed by the sex scenes in "Jenifer"........suppose that was the point though

I am looking forwards to watching the others - anyone have recommendations? I am intrigued by Miike's episode - anyone seen it?

:D

Imprint, Miike's episode is the only one I have seen so far, though there are several on our Netflix list. Had to get it since it was yanked from Showtime...LOL....had to see what that was about....;) I really liked it, thought it was very interesting. We had a couple of theories, watched the commentary to maybe shine some light.....and the commentary SUCKED. One of the guys didn't even seem to like it, much less understand it. Neither of them seemed to to know any more about it then we did, after watching it only one time. Disappointing and a complete waste of time. I did like the episode though.

Its good, I will warn you though, there is a reason it was pulled from Showtime....LOL...there is no end to the amount of people this could offend. :p It is pretty twisted. Also, it is kind of uneven, feels disjointed and in some places just silly. But kind of has the feel of early Cronenberg I thought, which isn't a bad thing. :)

I had read the short story for Haekel's Tale before seeing the MOH episode and found the filmed version to be weak. The second season of MOH has been quite lame, but I'm still happy to see this kind of programming on the air.

Just finished watching it and I can see why it was pulled  - althought I think it was aired over here! It certainly was gruesome - although not the most shocking thing I have seen. It was visually very beautiful - the costumes and such like, althought the hand-head thing was a bit bizzare! Although, unlike "Chocolate" or "Jenifer", I didn't have any unanswered questions........I thought it was much more entertaining than those two.
