Alexandre Aja to direct Piranha remake!

perfect man for the job. I think he could tone down the serious-ness for this one and make it a hell of a lot of fun

Could be interesting, but it seems like a step backward. I mean it's been remade before - this'll be a 3rd generation.

I hope he keeps it humorous!

Aja indeed has real potential in making good horror movies. I was surprised how good "The Hills Have Eyes" remake was, and how suspenseful was "High Tension" (though the twist at the end was quite a dumb idea). I haven't seen "Piranha" yet but I'll cross my fingers that it'll be a promising project.

Okay, I love Piranha, I really do. Piranha II: the Spawning is probably my second favorite horror comedy of all time.

I like Alex Aja as well. Wasn't that keen on the Hills Have Eyes remake, but it was stylistic, and as I believe it was either Rod or urge said, I'm cool with Fashion Horror. Haute Tension was fine with me.

Really, though, does Piranha need to be remade? Isn't this starting to come pretty damned close to sucking hind teat?

both movies were ok as far as cheese is concerned but quite honestly pirahna doesnt deserve a remake esp from Aja who has such high potential.

(up from the deep, it's the Piranha thread!)

The cast is pretty impressive--

It's sitting at 85% at Rotten Tomatoes at the moment. Granted, that's only with 26 reviews, but it sounds like Aja got it right; all indications are it's full of gratuitous blood, nudity, and ridiculousness. I expect it to end up in the 70s somewhere on the Tomato Meter, which is pretty damn good for a horror flick.

Jerry O'Connell is sooooo funny. He and Doc Brown really made the movie.
