Movie of the Week
So you've watched a few movies this week. Well, which one was the best? Was it the firt time you've seen it or something you've watched countless times? I'd have to say for me, this week, the best came down to Ingmar Bergman's Persona which I saw for the first time at the beginning of the week and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse which I just saw this weekend. I think I'd give the edge to Mabuse. Even though I really enjoyed Persona in all it's surreal glory I think Fritz Lang really gave TDM a tighter and more enjoyable story. I haven't seen the original silent film "Dr. Mabuse, King of Crime" but now I'll be on the lookout for it. On a side not, Inspector Lohmann who is the lead Inspector on the case is the same character as the Inspector Lohmann from M.

definetly The Shawshank Redemption. Not only the best movie ive seen this week, but one of the best movies ive seen...ever.

Agreed about Shawskank. Wouldn't say best ever but defianately one of the best in the last 20 years.
Also sat down and rewatched Nightmare of Elm St pt 1 this week. I still say that is one of the better slasher pic of the 80s. Great use of imagery. |
Since this week just started I'm using last weeks movies. My favourite being 300 (the rest of last weeks movies sucked by the way). Most of what I liked about it was the fight scenes. It's a story we've probably all heard before but it was really well told in my opinion. I adore any of Frank Miller's graphic novels and they translate well to the screen.
The only thing I didn't like was the overuse of green screen. It was no Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, but the whole thing was shot in Montreal as far as I know and the green screen was filled in after. There was no huge field of grain, no ocean and for the most part the blood was edited in. No wonder they made so much money on this movie. |

The best movie I saw this week was the evil dead.

The best movie that I saw this week would have to be "300". I went and saw it opening night at the theatres and it's incredible. I love all Marvel movies, and any comic movies really, but this one blew them all out of the water. It's a movie you really have to see either at the theatres or with a really kick arse surround sound system. The score is blood brilliant and the way they have done the camera work is awesome also.
