Emulation?

Okay, I've been thinking about getting into game emulation recently. There are a few games (specifically, Suikoden 2 and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne) that I missed the first time around and really want to play. I've no desire to get ripped off on eBay and these games are unavailable from other sources, so emulation seems like the ideal choice. Basically, I just want to see if any of you guys have tried it, and how it worked for you. I'm a little hesitant to get started, as it seems fearfully complex for someone such as myself with mediocre computer skills.

Oh, and please don't try to lecture me on the unethical nature of this. I'm well aware.

Been into it for years.
I even use a PSX emulator to play my imported Tobal 2 heh.

What systems are you looking at emulating? I can point you toward the best emulators almost all are easy to use. Check out http://www.zophar.net/ for the emulators themselves.

Specifically, just PS2 and PS1 for now. I've been looking at the EPSXE emulator. Do you have any experience with this one, or do you know a better one? Just the setup for it is like ten pages long, which is a little daunting to me. Thanks for any help you can give.

PSX Emulators are harder, you need the graphics bios, the sound bio, different plugins. PS2 is being worked on (I think recently they got 40 fps out of an emulator) but a lot of the community uses emulation for classic games and not piracy. I suggest instead of trying to get a PS2 emu to work well (because of the pc power you'd need) you just buy a used PS2 and have somebody put a mod chip in it.

Oh, I have a modded PS2, so that's not the issue. The problem is that certain game companies only print like 1000 copies of their games (screw you Atlus!) and after the initial run they become impossible to find. But I was pretty much aware already of the issues you mentioned, and to tell the truth, I'd pretty much given up on the idea. I've found a place where you can get some rare games for fair prices, so that's what I'll be doing. Thanks for your help anyway.
