Syriana

Just saw Syriana (and since its not a "modern horror film" - I wanted to just give it a plug here (hmm, i suppose this might be spam since I am George Clooney . . .)

Anyway, Syriana is an amazing film that you walk out of knowing that you just saw something well-crafted and important - a rare moment in films these days. The film has been called 'confusing' by some critics - but my sense was that the film was complex and intricate. In a way, the film refuses to pander to the audience - basically saying "hey, its a complex and screwed-up world and you'd better learn to pay attention."

The performances are almost all brilliant - Matt Damon proves he can act as does George Clooney and Christopher Plumber is a true cinematic presence. Jeffrey Wright is stunning in an underplayed performance of real moral complexity - indeed, the only let-down was Amanda Peet who seemed fairly one-dimentional.

Anyway, forgive my inappropriate pseudo-review - its just rare that I walk out of the theater feeling that a film has really changed my view - this was one and I just wanted to shout about it.
