permanent midnight!

Has anyone here heard of Permanent Midnight? it’s a memoir by Jerry Stahl... just wondering it’s the 10th anniversary of the book so I just finished reading it again. I saw the movie with Ben Stiller (terrible)

you're new here, so I'll be nice and avoid telling you that you're a dumbass and that this is the wrong folder and that you should go fuck yourself. All those things are 100% true, but since you're new, I won't say them

Oh, and we know you work for Process Media, also. Very transparent post. We know it's your job and everything, but, gosh, without any previous posts, you show up and instantly plug a book and link to your page so unceremoniously.....you could at least have bopped around here for a week or two before pimping your site. That's the trouble with businesses these days; they're all about instant gratification, there's no real attempt to get to know the customer, no real human interaction at all, just, "Hey guys, I heard about this great book, here's the site, click this link, go buy this puppy you easily programmable robots." Please! Show your prospective audience/money pipeline a little respect, why doncha. I'm fucking sick of this shit! Plus, the weather is hot. I am very easily annoyed in weather like this. Tell you what: I'll click your link if you send me a new air conditioner. Fair exchange. Now do it! Don't think about it, just DO IT. Plumb the depths of that limitless expense account of yours, and pony up some cash! Baby needs a new pair of shoes!

OK - here's a good example of shitty spam. This bozo works for some publishing house and he's pushing some already over-hyped book on a website that (in all fairness) is NOT his target audience (lots of corporations hire people to spam on chat rooms and lists). But this, in my mind, is totally different than the poor schmo who works his/her ass off to make some kind of product and then tries to get it out to an audience without the support of the megalithic media monstrosities (hows that for alliteration?!?!)

hmmmmm... How's this for an idea: If you don't belong to a certain community, don't bother showing up to shill your product on the people who do. Even though you'd like to generalize them as your "target audience", you never even took the time to meet and/or associate with them in the first place when it wasn't in your best interest. Chances are, most of the noobs who do come here to spam something (film, CD, book, site, etc) never stick around after doing their placement ad and are off to plug it on the next site. Plenty of members vocalize their sentiment of not wanting this and rightfully so. I resent the fact that just because I'm personally into horror films, somebody thinks I'll blindly buy their product because it's "horror-related". I have my own opinions on what I like or dislike and I especially dislike being targeted as an idiot who'll buy into their crap. I say screw them all.

question for AMK:

in the new member forum you let new members know right off the bat that- and this is an exact quote:

"1) Don't pimp your site here. It will be Deleted."

please don't feel like i am attacking you, because that is not my intention. i'm just wondering why posts like this are allowed to stay on the board. all they do is piss people off.
