Source: Variety
July 20, 2005

20th Century Fox has hired Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix helmer John Moore to direct The Omen 666, reports Variety.

The film is a remake of the 1976 horror classic about the arrival of the Antichrist in the home of an unsuspecting family.

Dan McDermott is writing a script that contemporizes the story. The project is on a fast track, as the studio has set a tentative October 3 start date.

Are you sure it's not a sequel to the original series ? I read that somewhere. When is enough going to be enough already with the remakes ?

I kind of figured The Omen would be next. I mentioned it in another thread.

According to IMDb, it's listed as another sequel. Lets hop they're right

Why all the remakes? Seems like the last few years that's all we've had. Don't get me wrong, I liked a few of the horror remakes, but damn... enough already.

According to Empire magazine the story is slightly different to the original in that it is not so obvious this time that Damien is the devil reborn.
It is more about the kid's dad being paranoid about the strange child he has fathered and believing that he is the devil. The viewer will be less undecided while watching apparently.

It will be enough already when they stop making money off them. Until then, we are stuck with remake after pointless remake. A couple here and there is fine....but it really is getting ridiculous. Or has already gotten to ridiculous to be honest.

Anyway, this sounds like another one of the "reimaginings" to me and will probably not even resemble the original all that much. But we'll see.

If the studios are so imaginative with all the reimagining, why can't they imagine up so new ideas for films ? Imagine that :D

What you mean actually trying to make an original film rather than just ripping off the name of a classic and throwing in some cute little asides to pay tribute to said classic so that they can somehow convince themselves they are actually doing justice to the material they are trying their very best to ruin?

Nah, that would be way too risky.
