American Phyco Ending?

Can someone explain to me what the crap happens. What I pieced together is that none of it ever happend. Thats what I got out of it. Scince things happend which really couldnt happen. i.e. Cop cars exploding from hand gun, ATM wanting to be fed stray cats ect ect. So can someone explain in full detail what all happend.

You're meant to think "Was it all in his mind?" or he basically got away with it (the rich get away with murder kinda analogy). I think the whole point of the story was just how much can these yuppie fuckwits get away with?

I can sum it up in one word: "Plastics"

That it's all in his head, but also, that there are so many people similar to this guy, living this frustrated, unexpressed existence, that who the heck knows how many potential nutbars there are. Pretty heady stuff!

From what they said in Entertainment Weekly (can't confirm only have on VHS). The DVD commentary by the producers states that they tried and failed to make you realize that he DID actually commit the murders... They fucked that up big time :P

The book is a trip inside Bateman's increasingly unhinged mind.

It does not take long for the reader to become suspicious about the atrocities he "commits" - if you can see past the (at times revolting) detailed descriptions then it becomes apparent the author may be having us on.

Unfortunately some people see this approach to writing as cheap "and then i woke up and it was all a dream" shots... which was a common reaction to the end of the movie.

um....well Im gonna say it was all in his mind.
