i think its a generic term..

could be help for education, making ends meet, starting a business ...

there would be a different process for applying for each instance ..

are you looking for a canadian specific answer or a general answer ?

if ur talking abou FAFSA, its a loan

but a lot of times peopel get awayw ithout paying it back. OR u pay it back so many years later, due to inflation, you're paying less.

then again, depending on how things go u may be paying more..... in this day and age.. ud probably end up paying more.

but the generaiton before us, yeh.. those who are paying loans now (before us,, perhaps 10.. 15 years older) are paying less than what they borrowde.

As far as college goes...financial aid can be either a loan or free money depending upon your situation.

For instance...I got financial aid while I was in school...and used it to pay my tuition...but of course...now that I'm done, I need to pay it back ;) So it's pretty much a loan..unless you qualify for free aid b/c of your financial situation or what have you...I basically got screwed b/c my parents made too much...so I didn't qualify for any "free money". But I shouldn't complain about something like that really...

Anyway...if you need to get financial aid...it's really the best kind of loan to have. You usually get low interest rates...in fact they're the lowest they've been in years...mine's locked in at like 1.7% or something...it rules ;)

But I'm sure that it will go up a bit...however, it'll cost you way less than a bank loan that's for sure.

I hope this helps a little...you should really just talk to an advisor at your respective college...they'll help you plan for everything, and let you know what you qualify for :)

Unless this has nothing to do with financial aid for school purposes....yeah;)
