The Deadliest Catch

Has anybody watched this 'reality' show on the Discovery Channel, about the Alaskan Crab fishermen?

These guys are fucking tough. I bet their balls are made of steel. I know after 30 seconds of being on a boat being tossed around by 15 foot waves, I would have puked about 20 times.

Hmm....I think I saw something like it...or maybe it WAS the same show...not too sure...was it a special on the most dangerous jobs?

no, it's a series that follows a fleet of ships as they try and catch the most Alaskan snow crab. it's pretty good. it and the Contender are the only reality shows I watch.

and I bet you could make it more than 20 minutes. I've worked offshore, and once you get used to it, it's not too bad.

I love this show. And no kidding, these guys really are tough. I don't see how anyone can do this job after watching this show. I guess the chance of making such good money is a draw....lol. It is fascinating though.

north sea fishermen and oil riggers have the toughest and shitiest jobs... I moan sometimes, but think of the conditions these guys work under, don't envy them at all.

HappyCamper 06-05-2005 12:31 AM

Yeah these guys definitely have to work in pretty shitty conditions. I'm amazed that these guys do this year, after year. I think they said in one episode that the injury rate is almost 100%, and that at least one person pays the ultimate price, for every week of the fishing season. (for those who don't watch, 'fishing' is how they refer to crabbing)

it was either on the first or second episode where one of the ships in the fleet sank and not all the men aboard were rescued.

I wasn't trying to make light of what these guys do, I know it's called "the deadliest catch" for a reason. I was just saying that once you get used to the motion of the ocean (heh), the sea-sickness isn't a problem anymore.

its actually a really good show, I watch it during math class because supposedly it has math in it, with calculating the pounds of the crabs, into how much money they will make. pretty good deal tho. watching tv for math class. our math teacher is a slacker:D
