Post Apocalyptic Movies

Is anyone a fan of this horror/sci-fi subgenre?

One of my favourites is the movie “Mindwarp” as its stars both Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) and Angus Scrimm (Phantasm)

28 Days Later.

I dispise that movie with an intense passion of burning.....Um....Passion.

I sorta have splot experience with this genre....28 Days Later....

But I love NotLD, and Slipstream is incredibly underated!!!

feral cat 09-13-2004 11:51 PM

Not sure if night of the living dead counts, there has not really been an apocalypse yet, maybe in the later movies!

Slipstream, good call Vampenguin, now there’s a film that’s rarely mentioned, poor Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), he never really went on to achieve the kind of fame you would have expected!

I am a fan of Mad Max and SHE...SHE is really dumb but I still like it...

The Omega Man.

Still one of the best IMO

Last Man on Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

feral cat 09-14-2004 03:55 PM

Omega man and last man on earth are both great movies, based on the same novel!:)

xGuardianx03 09-14-2004 06:29 PM

I guess you could count Fist of the Northstar as well, for all of you Anime fans.

VoyagerOne 09-14-2004 09:27 PM

Omega Man!! Definitely an all-time favorite! Some great stuff in there --

"There is NO PHONE RINGING, DAMMITT!!"

28 Days Later? Nah... Omega Man Earlier! 28 Days Later is cool becuase of the fast zombies, and the production on DV.... But Matthias would definitely look down on them almost worse than Neville!

This Quiet Earth is probably the best Last Man movie... but it's more sci-fi....

But I'd say one of the best is "A Boy and his Dog"!

Boy and his dog is a really wierd one, classic ending though!

A Boy and his Dog......now thats a blast from the past.
Probabaly Don Johnson's best work.

I would love to see eveil dead 4 as a post apocalyptic movie they could do it from the end when he wakes up in the future (I know theres an alternative ending in the s mart)

Vodstok 09-15-2004 11:25 AM

Quiet earth was pretty good. The end was very odd, and a little disappointing.

Ever see "night of the comet"? My freind had this on VHS. Bad movie, but fun in a retarded 80s way.

28 days later is great.

Any of romero's dead movies.

I happen to like the new dawn of the dead quite a bit.

Oddly, all the planet of the apes movies are technically post-apocalyptic.

Not movies, but the Fallout games kick major ass.

feral cat 09-15-2004 11:36 AM

Planet of the apes is one of the beat post apocalyptic movies ... the statue of liberty scene is a classic!

Vodstok 09-15-2004 11:38 AM

"YOU Maniacs! You Blew it up! Damn You! Damn you all to hell!"

Back before chuck weas a senile nutcase :) he was a great actor.

LOL ... thats so true

Well it is technically not horror...........but it was horrifying in a quiet understated way...but Testament..........that movie totally freaked me out. People just go on with life as everyone is dying around them and the whole society they know disintigrates.

Totally creepy!

megalomaniac 09-15-2004 09:52 PM

my fav end of the world movies were day of the dead and the mad max series

Dr_Freudstein 09-29-2004 12:13 PM

well 28 days later did not have zombies in as they were infected with rage . . . anywho

my faves are

2019 : After the fall of new york
new barbarians
bronx warriors 1 & 2
mad max 2

mainly cos they were what my grandad hired when we first got our betamax in the early 80's

my current fave is cold harvest with gary daniels

i just got sent a copy of testament, threads and the day after . . .not watched em yet .. .

if you want more info on WPAMS check out the wpambase on ITSPITONYOURMOVIE.COM....

an almost definitive source . . .

I'm going to have to go with:

1.Escape From New York
2.Planet Of The Apes (original)
3. Road Warrior
4. and just for a laugh:Night Of The Comet

urgeok 10-28-2004 09:04 AM

-> laughing my ass off at Bronx Warriors, etc ..

Those were the films that made me aware of Italian shlock cinema !

Although leaders in the Horror field at one time the italians loved to rip off well known american cult films .. especially Escape From the Bronx. - a complete rip off of Escape From New York.

I havent seen them in years (although i have them on Beta) but if memory serves .. Escape from the Bronx actually had some guy playing drums outside ... in a direct reference to the precussion music playing when the Duke's car first appeared in Escape from New York ...

Stuff that blantant kills me :)

As far as the thread goes .. I'm all over A Boy and His Dog ..
Always loved that film.

I don't think Omega Man's ever been topped in the post-apocalyptic category. Charlton Heston was awesome. Wasn't it based on I Am Legend?
