Halloween Movies for your Halloween Viewies
Here's a list of Halloween themed movies that you can consider renting/watching for your Halloween season movie-fests. Most of them here are okay for family viewing. If you can think of any that aren't on here, feel free to add!
The Clown Murders The Blair Witch Project (takes place during Halloween ... notice the decorations on the storefront) Demons Demons 2 Ernest Scared Stupid Frankenstein and Me Frankenstein Sings ... The Movie The Ghost and Mr. Chicken Halloween Halloween 2 Halloween 3: Season of the Witch Halloween 4: The Return of Micheal Myers Halloween 5: The Revenge of Micheal Myers Halloween 6: The Curse of Micheal Myers Halloween 7: The Persecution and Assassination of Micheal Myers As Performed By the Inmates of the Asylum Under the Direction of the Marquis De Sade Halloween H20 The Halloween Tree Hocus Pocus Idle Hands I've Been Waiting for You Jack-O KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949) The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1979) The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1986) Sleepy Hollow (1999) The Midnight Hour Night of the Demons Night of the Demons 2 Night of the Demons 3 The Nightmare Before Christmas Practical Magic Revenge of the Living Zombies Something Wicked This Way Comes Spaced Invaders Teen Alien Trick or Treat Trick or Treats Wacko Hollow's End It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Some of these are out-and-out kids' movies, but that doesn't mean they suck. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a great cartoon for "kids" of all ages, and so is the film The Halloween Tree. And others were added just because they are Halloween themed (not necessarily because they were any good.) |
I forgot Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's sleeper hit Double Double Toil and Trouble. And that should complete my list.

Actually, I just thought of a couple more:
There exists a Cartoon Network Halloween special DVD. But I would not reccommend this at all. There are MANY cartoons on it, but only one of them is Halloween themed, and that is a Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy cartoon. This one cartoon, on the whole DVD, is pretty good (and is a personal favorite of mine, since it includes a slightly bastardized version of the Stingy Jack legend). But the rest of the cartoons are not Halloween related (and some are not even "monster" themed, and you wonder why the hell they were included on the DVD). Of course, I'm leaving out a bunch of stuff that people here who don't have small children won't be interested in (Nicktoons' Halloween, SpongeBob Halloween, and Barney's Halloween Party to name a few), but I think the list I made is pretty inclusive. Again, if you think of any that aren't on the list, feel free to add! You may come up with one I haven't seen and will want to run out and rent! (Sorry for the multiple posts. But I believe I mentioned about a month and a half ago that when the Halloween season rolls around, I'll be "posting like a pile of bitches" ... and, as I've already said, it has started). |

Maybe I need to watch it again....
Isnt it Halloween when they're running through town after Sammael? |
Any of the classic Universal monster movies are family-friendly.
|
FrankenWeenie!
This classic, classic short by Tim Burton is one of my earliest memories of watching a movie. And I do believe it is Halloween-themed or at least Frankenstein-themed. |

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow [1949] Is that the animated Walt Disney version ? I was talking about it with the wife just the other day. I was wondering when it was made. I guessed the 40's- 50's. I need to pick that one up. |
I think he's right about hellboy....although not a central theme of the movie as we are all not exactly sure it was in there at all....

The 1979 version is a TV movie that is all-around lousy, save for Jeff Goldblum's performance as Ichabod Crane. The 1986 version was made for Showtime for Shelly Duvall's Tall Tales and Legends. It's a visually striking film, but Ed Begley Jr.'s portrayal of Ichabod is just plain painful. The last one, the 1999 version, is the Tim Burton film with Johnny Depp. Probably the best adaptation next to the Disney film. |
Vampire hunter: D all the way plus the anime Akira o if any of you have enough balls you should watch the japanese movie Ichi The Killer that movie kicks so much ass i must strongly say theses are some kick ass movies

I watch horror movies pretty much every day, and I never really watch television...So...To be honest...The only thing that I really look forward to watching on Halloween, are the Simpson's Halloween Specials:cool:
|
Speaking of Anime......the Cowboy Bebop Movie is a Halloween movie....
|
If ya like old Disney animation than I recommend Mickey's House of Villians. Its full of old Disney halloween related shorts.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. The other short on "The Nightmare Before Christmas" dvd is awesome too. The stop-motion short about Vincent Price as a child. |
Here's another Halloween film to add to the list. It's called The Hazing, and will be out on video Tuesday (9/14/04). It's about a group of college freshmen who are attempting to join a fraternity (and sorority), but they have to complete a scavenger hunt then spend the night in a haunted house ... on Halloween.
It's really not that bad of a film ... even though it tries to be The Evil Dead with it's mixture of comedy and horror ... there is even a blatant tribute to Bruce Campbell in the film. Unfortunately, TED series had the character of Ash going for it .... this movie has no such likeable character. There are some amusing moments, and it is definitely better than the rest of the direct-to-video releases coming out. |
Okay, i dont own any halloween-set movies, except for a dvd with 4 Treehouse of Horror episodes (which i klove). i do have most (if not all) THOH episodes on my pc, and i do have a pc hooke dup to my tv, so that will probably be #1 on the list.
I will also be watching the old standbys: Exorcist Dawn of the Dead Night of the Living Dead Dog Soldiers(i am really too "in" to this movie.....) Alien The Shining ..... Maybe the Ring |
