I can’t find any modern horror I like
I grew up a horror fan. Loved the Friday the 13ths, Texas chainsaw massacre, the exorcist, etc. I even liked a lot of 90s horror like scream and the Blair witch, but I can’t think of one movie I’ve loved since 2010. I know they’re out there but I got really turned off when cgi came about and kind of stopped watching.
There are two horror movies I’ve seen in the last ten years or so that I remember liking but I can’t even remember the names. I just watched the invitation and it was decent. I loved the 28 days later movies and house of 1000 corpses but that’s around the time I slowed down horror binging. I guess I want something with an older feel. Maybe a campy slasher. Anything I need to know about? I’ve looked around the forum but none of these movies are jumping out at me. |
Have you seen Bone Tomahawk?
Triangle? The Signal (2007...a bit earlier) or Severance (2006) Older feel...Terrifier/AHE? ATM? |
Autopsy of Jane Doe, 2016
Hereditary, 2018 Hush , 2016 Lake Nowhere, 2014 The Furies, 2019 Jackals, 2016 Bereavement, 2010 In Fabric, 2018 |
Watch It Follows.
|
I will look into all of these. I have the signal in my queue already.

How about, per Deadbeat's sig, going to see Joker October 2020.
|
Found (2012) and Almost Human (2013) were both great mixes of 80s style and modern horror.
|
^^^thanks will look into

Also I’ve scrolled by All the boys love Mandy lane and thought it looked familiar. I started watching it and I definitely watched it when it came out. This is my style movie, kinda “happy birthday to me”ish, haven’t gotten to the ending yet and I don’t remember how it plays out. |

Peaking at Netflix, these are pretty good post 2010 films: Train to Busan - well done Korean zombie The Conjuring - scary late 70's-ish Hush - bit Hitchcockian The Babysitter (good first 3/4th, bit of a 80's homage) Post 2000s The Cell Cloverfield Not Netflix: Vacancy, Dead Silence, The Ring 2002, Ouija: Origin of Evil |

Sculpt- it actually just registered to me that subtitles is out for now. Probably sound silly but I’m only watching these movies when I’m on the treadmill. I definitely couldnt keep up.
I looked at hush and I’ve seen it but I don’t remember much. Might rewatch. Just finished Mandy lane. Cool movie. |

I don't like watching subtitled films in general because you can't just watch the whole screen like the director intended it. Busan was an 'easy read', by the way, short and generally infrequent dialogue. So when you can just end your night with Netflix, it's a fun watch. What I liked about Hush was that basically everything the film shows you is there for a purpose. That's generally textbook for making films, but for horror fans, especially cheaper horror, we know there's a ton of meaningless shoots and items. So it was cool to see a film with Hitchcockian detail. |

How about Mandy? The Void?

^^ will look into. I keep seeing Mandy recommended.

I did just watch The Final Girls. It’s was entertaining enough but more of a spoof than horror. |
The Collector (2009) and The Collection (2012) are also pretty solid, and have continuing storylines/characters. A third one will be coming out. All from the same director so if you've yet to check them out, might be worth a look.
I enjoyed them. |
No offense, but don't waste your time with "It Follows" Not scary at all. Same with Babadook. WAY overrated.
Here are some that I found REALLY frightening: Bonehill Road Blood Moon Man VS. Dark Was the Night Rawhead Rex The Ritual |

Triangle, I love this film, but wouldn't really class it as horror. |
It sounds like you want a slasher but I would have thought their time was over.
It seems obvious to suggest that Friday the 13th reboot but it wasn't half bad. |
Hereditary is great
Also check out Haunting of Hill House - a series on Netflix. Pretty good if you like Conjuring type stuff |

Well, IMO, the greatest horror films were made first in that whole Dracula-Wolfman-Frankenstein era and then in the Vertigo-Birds Hitchcock era and then in the 1970s-1990s Leatherface-Michael-Jason-Freddy era.
After that, there's a huge dip with a bunch of random and mostly mediocre spook/scare-flicks like Candyman, Carrie II, Mothman (etc.). However, there're are a few gems even after or somewhat before 2010 that don't remind us tasteless corn scare films like I Spit on Your Grave (anyone seen that one?), such as Urban Legend (LINK), It (LINK), and Jeepers Creepers (LINK). I'd recommend avoiding 21st Century pure disasters such as the horrible and shocking Bloody Murder (LINK) and the equally-morbid if not as 'bizarre' Cucuy (LINK). They should make a definitive horror-cinema guidebook, right?? Good luck! ::stick out tongue:: |

i dont find any horror movie scary ..not since i was a kid.
but i find that some are effective .. Heredity - as someone said above .. and by the same filmmaker - Midsommer Session 9 is a movie i suggest to everyone bone tomahawk is just a great movie overall .. best dialogue of any horror movie ever i dont judge horror by if it will scare me .. i judge it like i do any other genre .. is it well written, well made, well acted, well edited, well scored. does it make me give a shit about the characters .... does it have one iota of originality .. that eliminates 95% of all horror movies. but there are stiil some gems out there. |

I seem to recall this 80's movie with a girl from space...and two guys helped her escape her pursuers...I think there was motorcycles involved.
|
The Descent - 2005
Ready or Not - 2019 Roadkill - 2001 (also known as Joyride) Not really a horror, more of a thriller but a damn good movie Halloween - 2007 (Rob Zombie) Don't Breathe - 2016 The Collector - 2009 Wrong Turn - 2003 The Last House on The Left - 2009 |
Trace (from 2015)
Last Shift (from 2014) It's been a while since I watched them. Last shift might have had some CGI, but then, maybe didn't. Even if it did, it definitely had practical effects, too. |
