Pros and cons of watching horror movies.
Hello, well I have been reading some blogs and I found out that seeing horror movies has more good things than bad things.
In one study the doctors find out that watching horror movies increase the possibility of generate white blood cell, this means that our body will be stronger to combat the diseases. Other than that the doctors find out that our senses are sharpened and we can easily be in alert. About the negative points it says that watching this type of movies, we can suffer insomnia, anxiety, phobias and mental trauma. Also it says that if the movie is too strong the viewer can suffer post traumatic stress and generate fears we hadn't before. I think that all depends of the movie, certainly seems to me very well that watching a horror movie has a benefit besides from how exciting it is to see a horror movie, but in another way i think that some of the negative aspects in a way they are right, at least as for me some movies have traumatized me, for example, V/H/S or Babadook. I would like to know what do you think about this and which movies has been too traumatizing for you. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...46uey54iKi6u-F https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/i...JqnA1VPBoN7ZP7 |
I agree that there are movies that could scar, for me it was A Serbian Film ,but it doesn't mean they are all dangerous. What scares a person really depends on them and what they're afraid of. When I see movies like Misery, Aliens, Saw, The Thing, etc. I have fun and laugh off my fears right after. Yes, I do find myself cautious around certain things like dark hallways or strangers walking around my house ,but its not necessarily a bad thing I'm just more alert like KarlaMauricio described. To me horror is like any other movie genre that brings its own kind of entertainment where some people can enjoy it while others can't.

Like Bobby Byrd says on Pass the Peas "Because it makes me haaaaapy"
Pros? Fer me I wanna be shocked out of my mundane reality. Brutalize my perception, stain my mind with images that are hard to shake off. When I come down off of a good horror read or flick everyday life looks pretty good in comparison. Cons? Pessimism fer one... Horror tends to darken my perception of things around me making me see the dark sinister of everything in life and in others... One flick that really did a number on me was RZ's The Devil's Rejects....the sheer brutality the victims have to endure....the one scene where the chick is taunted with her boyfriend's cut off face bein' used as a mask...only to have her get run over and splattered by a truck.....Fantastic stuff::smile:: That thing about the white blood cells tho now that's good news!::big grin:: |

Pros: All the laughs.
Cons: I've started killing people. |
The Exorcist was the only movie to ever really traumatize me. Oh & Pet Sematary is a close second. I was a kid, & Pascow just terrified me. I didn't realize at the time he was a good ghost. I just knew he was flippin scary. When I joined the volleyball team at school, I was annoyed because our uniform shorts were the same color of red as the shorts Pascow had on in the movie. Every time I got dressed for a game I would think about him. I was a weird kid. ::big grin::
Pros: Horror movies keep me out of prison. How so? Sometimes when people upset me I'll think, wow I just want to stab you in the face so badly right now. But I don't! I go home & watch a good slasher flick & it's very cathartic for me. Cons: I miss out on the prison food I hear so much about. |
Pros: love horror, plenty of good stuff to watch.
Cons: I tend to watch horror in the evenings and when I wake the next morning I don't feel as happy or in the mood for morning things, the same as if I've watched a different genre of film... horror must do something mental to my brain. |
Pros- Horror
Cons- N/A |
Oh please, horror movies are EDUCATIONAL. It keeps kids from having sex or they'll die a horrible death. Or making stupid decisions or they'll die a horrible death. Or doing drugs or they'll die a horrible death. Or being fat or you'll die a horrible death. Or having a sense of humor or you'll die a horrible death. Or not being white or you'll die a horrible death...
...I forget where I was going with this. |
Pros~ Horror is everything to me.
Cons~ I don't quite understand this word. |

Watching horror movies can have a bad effect on people who aren't used to such things. Many can't stand gore while others can't watch something that has to do with ghosts. Most of the time it can have a deep impact on children. To me the pros are that I can laugh about how stupid some of the characters are. It's also quite interesting how the creators try to play with our fear. |

I admit, I was the biggest pussy when I was a kid. I didn't hate horror but more of respected it like prey does a predator. I kept my distance from it whenever possible, but you can't avoid it sometimes. Until I learned to accept horror as a part of life, I scared easily and (although I still enjoyed my lycanthropes) remember being jumpy of the least scariest things like Buffy and CSI. My parents and my friends were the culprits of most of these, and now a days it seems I'm the only one who appreciates a good murder anymore. I think the point I'm trying to get to is that horror is very influential, it's very honest, and it's blunt. This is life, this is what it looks like. Either fear it or embrace it. There will be pain. There will be death. That's part of life. Make the right decisions and you'll survive. That is horror to me. Your parents telling you ''that's life'' when you bitch about anything. |
