It Follows

Anyone who likes Halloween, House of the Devil or any 80s horror film should check this one out. It pays tribute to the old films with its own original story

horcrux2007 07-11-2015 05:12 AM

To me it didn't even feel like an 80's movie. It was like a movie I had never seen before, and I loved every second of it.

neilold 07-14-2015 12:20 AM

what the hell in this film is 80s?

That English is? No. Is no.

A lot of people have been claiming that "It" fills the role of an 80s slasher following the protagonist. I pretty strong disagree. The entire structure of the movie is fundamentally different from that style.

Slasher films, and for that matter most horror films, build up tension and then release it in periodic scares. It Follows uses very few major scares, and simply allows the tension to keep building through the entire runtime.

For me it was the attire people were wearing and the place it was chosen to be shown. The clothes seemed very normal 80s(not the glaringly obvious 80s style like spandex or poofy hair). The houses all seemed also from a different decade in how they're shot/decorated. The style of the decoration, but not things like tech or 80's bands. The actress does use an e-reader, but its a very 80's style of a large flip seashell. I think there were also posters, but of more recent music. The car they drive around as well as the places they film at are run down or suburban kitsch that reminds me of the 80s.

I found it to be quite boring.

I find myself getting bored with quite a few of the new releases lately.

I really want more that are on a 'Headless' level. ::danger::

The only thing about this movie that said "80s" to me was the synth soundtrack.

Anthropophagus 07-18-2015 11:52 PM

On first viewing this Friday i thought it was a good but average movie. But on second viewing last night i saw it quite differently.A very clever and interesting plot with minimal fx but plenty of style.Loved the soundtrack also,a nice throwback from a past era.

I don't like 80's movies and have not watched single movie.

You must be very young then, you heathen.

ZombiLuv 07-25-2015 09:17 PM

I just watched this On Demand last night and loved it! Thought it was very stylishly done, suspenseful, and if anything I felt is was more styled in a 70's way than 80's. I like that it was an original movie. I am sick of reboots of anything worthwhile from previous years.

It's refreshing they didn't need a lot of gore, and heavy usage of over the top CGI it was still creepy and a crazy ride.

I'm glad I paid to see it in theatres twice. It's definitely a film that benefits from the big-screen experience.

Great soundtrack. Pretty good movie, kept my interest since it was fresh and unique for me. Be interesting how it holds up tho in time. Might end up being one those that is kinda boring since you know what happens. Course I'm sure sequels...

What I like are the religious types who are saying that the "it" is a sexually transmitted disease and the movie shows that abstinence is actually the only way to be safe...

The movie did leave some questions unanswered...when she swims out to the boat did she have sex with all three or only one... And who is that following them at the end?

Not sure if she had sex with all of them, but the assumption that the person following them is the last person to die to whatever it is.

I loved It Follows. What an inventive horror movie? It's not the gore that drives the movie but the suspense. That to me makes a great horror film

SuminderJi 08-11-2015 04:49 AM

This movie was alright. It was a bit slow at times. It could have also been better if not for the extremely stupid ending. I liked the unique story line and the acting from the young cast. Unlike others, I loved the music and it's 80's music feel to it, retro even. 3.5/5

adamski75 08-12-2015 09:13 AM

Word of mouth

I loved many things about the film. It had subtext, substance, the score and it was pretty intense...all in my opinion, of course.

I like, also, the fact that it had no marketing budget and became a true word-of-mouth 'hit'...It's a real shame that films like this make next to nothing and transformers 4 made bucketloads...but that's a different debate!

GeorgiaMagpie 08-14-2015 06:41 AM

Loved this!

Hi I totally loved this movie, how eerie it was and the soundtrack was really cool and added soo much to it it really creeped me out!

Ghoulies4Life 08-27-2015 03:54 PM

I'm looking forward to checking this one out.
