King or Koontz..?

Okay, so I'm new on here, but I've already made some nice and diverse friends.

Some favour King over Koontz as a writer, so the simple question is:

King or Koontz?

Please vote.

anglewitch 02-06-2015 04:13 AM

King ( only his earlier short stories).

and I bet dean koontz was pen name that king used.

MichaelMyers 02-06-2015 04:17 AM

King definitely. His only weakness is he often has trouble bringing closure to his books (which is why many fans like his short stories the best).

This is a very serious allegation. ::danger::

I've got to admit Mr Myers that getting to ends of both The Stand and IT almost killed me (well, my eyesight for sure!). I've always wanted to reread them both but they're such an undertaking I'm not so sure.

Both are certainly on my bucket list! ::shocked::

TeddyFreddy 02-06-2015 04:33 AM

king all the way

The Villain 02-06-2015 04:59 AM

Definitely King. Could never get into Koontz

Maybe go right back to his earlier stuff? Phantoms, Strangers, Watchers, Lightning. Or the Odd Thomas books? (Am clutching at straws here - aren't I?!) ::sad::

vampyd1977 02-06-2015 05:42 AM

i love em both but gotta go king, as a discriptive writer there arnt many better, he can paint with words that man, even if very occasionally he gets a bit too long winded.

Jake.Ashworth 02-06-2015 06:08 AM

King all day. Ive read a lot of both. As for Koontz, I really liked the Odd Thomas series. It was a little young but it was fun. I read a lot of old King when I was young but after I stumbled upon The Gunslinger he took his rightful place at the top of my favorite authors list.

The Bloofer Lady 02-06-2015 06:30 AM

I'm certainly not the reader I was 20 years ago but I'd say Koontz.

Dead Bad Things 02-06-2015 06:33 AM

Stephen King is an American horror literature icon.

Geordie9 02-06-2015 07:26 AM

King by a million miles

Yeah maybe. Watchers and Phantoms did interest me

We're definitely in the minority Bloofer Lady!

I say King as well.

But yea, Koontz has made some great ones. Cold Fire being my favorite. Not really a horror novel, but when action happened in that book it was impossible to close. The best written action I've ever read.

koontz does do action very very well.

anglewitch 02-09-2015 12:14 PM

Well we all hate to disappoint you but you and Jacob are on your own. ::big grin::

Jake.Ashworth 02-09-2015 12:30 PM

Not entirely on their own, I really like Koontz too, just prefer King.

Now King or Barker would be more difficult for me.

anglewitch 02-09-2015 12:39 PM

I only like Stephen kings short stories.

Jake.Ashworth 02-09-2015 12:54 PM

He has a new short that just got approved for publish called Drunken Fireworks. No clue what its about, but I would assume drunk people and fireworks...

still king for me, only time ive come close to finding someone i prefered was when i read the necroscope books by brian lumley, they were phenomenal.

Jake.Ashworth 02-09-2015 12:59 PM

That I can agree with, those were solid. No one really captures my attention like King. But Im a huge Clive Barker fan, Movie and book. Its a hard one for me.

anglewitch 02-09-2015 01:48 PM

I've been stuck in those jams. Impossible to get out.

It's probably about some guy who writes novels for a living, who gets run down by a car and ends up in a wheelchair battling his inner demons with booze.

Jonathan Janz 02-09-2015 05:49 PM

I've not read Koontz yet--he's probably the biggest gap in my genre reading, one I'm frankly a little embarrassed about.

But King is my favorite writer by far, so this one was an easy choice for me.
