You can't edit your posts for more than 5 minutes or less. After that your post is locked.

So with that feature missing, what's the point of this thread?

tommywikkid 01-06-2015 08:27 PM

Oh. Well pointless then, never seen a forum where you can't edit your posts later.

Me neither. it's quite annoying really.

I agree, thanks for the heads up.

Angra 01-06-2015 09:54 PM

You're welcome.

The thread was a good idea.

Giganticface 01-07-2015 06:19 PM

It is a good idea. Too bad we can't do it.

Although, I already log every movie I watch in three different places:

IMDB
http://www.imdb.com/user/ur37879223/ratings

Letterboxd (for just the past month or so -- I'm digging the service though!)
http://letterboxd.com/timmaster/films/diary/

...And in a custom web app I built, although I won't share that URL.

I also used to log everything in Flixter, but I've since replaced that with Letterboxd.

Unfortunately, that's so much data entry that I usually don't find time to mention it on HDC. I need to get better about that though.

i think most of us post on the contemparary board when we watch something new anyway.

No, not at all. I'm way too lazy to make a small review of every movie i watch. In this thread i could just add the movie title to my list and move on. Nice n easy.

Totally agree. It's why I rarely get around to posting in the Contemporary thread -- I don't usually feel like writing anything.

I suppose, but it would be cool to be able to look back at one place and see everything you watched instead of trying to go through pages and pages of the last watched thread.

So is there a reason they have the edit your post feature disabled after so many minutes? If it's not important could we get it changed possibly?

That's a question for the moderators.

The editing limit was made to prevent troublemakers from editing/deleting their bullshit posts for later evidence, if you know what I'm sayin.

Then why isn't there an editing history? The other 4 forums that I go on have that.

An editing history? Where would that be?

horcrux2007 01-08-2015 12:35 PM

How would I know? It's different for every forum.

I mean, where is it on the other forums since you know about it? Is it only the moderators who can see the info or is it accessible to all?

I think I know what you're talking about. I've seen on other forums when you edit your post it'll put sort of like a timestamp noting that an edit was made with the date and time.

Okay. Yes, good idea. Lets do it.

Giganticface 01-08-2015 02:47 PM

I noticed this is kind of a trend lately, stating conversation integrity as the reason. For instance, I built screambox.com and used Muut for discussions. Here's their manifesto on conversation permanence: https://muut.com/manifesto/#permanent

The last website I built (for a much bigger client) doesn't allow editing comments at all.

I've never once had a problem with someone editing posts on other forums that I'm a member of, and I don't see why there would be any problems here.

Well, there isn't any problems at the moment and there haven't been of in quite some time now, as far as I know. But I'm sure the rule made sense back when the mods came up with it.

I'm never around when shit hits the fan or I never notice it, which PISSES ME OFF!!

It's mostly because probably 95% of the active members are people who have been here for years.

Nah, not anymore. I would say it's about 50/50.

tommywikkid 01-08-2015 04:14 PM

You're a legend here Angra, surely your stroke can put some wheels in motion?

I think it's more of a philosophical thing than a way to mitigate problems. In real life, when you say something, and someone responds, you don't get to go back and change what you first said, so I think the trend now is to try to maintain the same type of integrity.

I'm not saying I totally buy into it. I understand the reasoning, but obviously there are tradeoffs.

Angra 01-08-2015 04:28 PM

The mods are not blind. They see this thread and might talk it over.

I've already stated my opinion of the matter in this thread. We'll just have to wait and see.

i`d like to be able to edit posts and from the time ive been here i think most of us are responsible enough and grown up enough to be able to respect the forum.

This was demanded by members themselves a while back. Some posters used to edit their original posts after a few replies were posted, remove stuff and information which made subsequent posters look like fools.

I received plenty of PMs requesting for the time limit, most of them demanding a 5-minute limit, and some demanding the ability to edit posts be removed completely. But, in the interest of fairness and for those members who wished to add additional information to their posts within a certain period of posting it, I extended the time to 30 minutes.

#4 in the list of Changes: http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63919

Some of the guilty posters are still active and around. Sorry, but the rule stays for now.

The best solution I can offer is this - send the content you wish to add to your original post as a PM to me, and I will edit your original post and add your content to it, as requested by you.

That being said, V. You're aware that this edit limit hinders a certain amount of thread ideas/possibilities, right? I mean, since there hasn't been any troubles for quite some time now, why not open up for the free editing again? You can always add it on if people should start to misuse it.

Okay, done. And devil smiley is added as well.

Two of my last jobs as super-mod.

Track The Movies You Watch Discussion Thread

So, does this mean that we won't be posting in the "latest contemporary movie" thread anymore?? I don't remember all the movies that I already posted in that thread for January.

No,no..you can still post in the other threads..classic, contemporary etc.. and describe your movie and your opinion. And you don't even have to do this if you don't want to. Its just a list of what you've seen and what others have seen. I will totally still post on the other threads.
