THE SEVEN
OK, a little "not Halloween" fun. Let's say that March 31st is Spooky Day. And you were going to recommend the seven best Horror films of all time, to watch each day leading up to Spooky Day, which seven films would they be?

In no particular order:
1. Halloween 2. Nightmare on Elm Street 3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4. The Changeling 5. Psycho 6. Frankenstein 7. Nosferatu |
1.City Of The Living Dead
2.The Beyond 3.The House By The Cemetary 4.Suspiria 5.Inferno 6.The Innocents 7.Ringu |
Oh man - I'm struggling with the difference between BEST and FAVORITE - I have quite a few favorite horror movies that I wouldn't necessarily consider the best of all time... Hmmmmmmm - Off the top of my head the only way I can really separate out BEST is to give each day a theme...
Day 1 - Vampires: Nosferatu - Definitely a movie that every horror viewer should see at some point. I think it's so important for the genre. Day 2 - Hitchcock: Psycho (Birds is a runner up) Day 3 - Zombies: Night of the Living Dead (Zombie II is a runner up) Day 4 - Demonic Possession: The Exorcist Day 5 - Slashers: Halloween (Black Christmas is a runner up) Day 6 - Haunted House/Monsters: Alien Day 7 - Found Footage/Witch Craft: Blair Witch Project That was really difficult - If I were going with Movies I Would Watch In The Next Seven Days, it would probably look like this - A mix of favorites/movies that I haven't seen in a while. Cabin in the Woods (because this movie is infinitely rewatchable for me) Inside (because it's been a LONG TIME since I've seen it) The Descent (favorite of mine) Evil Dead II (because, well, Evil Dead II) Blair Witch Project (favorite) Grave Encounters (because I've been wanting to rewatch it lately) Ringu (because it's been a while and it's a damn good movie) |
Just noticed that you said best, i just picked 7 at random. I may have to re think mine
|
Very hard to choose just seven..and the best at that..so I'll just go with what I might choose.
SILVER BULLET 1985 PUMPKINHEAD 1988 STIR OF ECHOES 1999 WHEN A STRANGER CALLS 1979 DEAD SILENCE 2007 THE ORPHANAGE 2007 THE EXORCIST 1973 |
OK so I thought about it. Since were talking marathons I think it would be a good idea to do different genres like Chrono did. So here we go:
Vampire Day: Nosferatu Monster Day: Gojira Ghost Day: The Changeling Slasher Day: Halloween Alien Day: The Thing From Another World Hammer Day: Curse of Frankenstein Classic Universal Day: Creature From The Black Lagoon Honorable Mention/Runner Up: Vincent Price Day: The Abominable Dr. Phibes |
I think I preferred your first list, Villain. ::cool::

Or maybe I just felt like cheating and making another list ::wink:: |

I might take out Found Footage Day and make it Giant Monster Day with Godzilla. Also: I still need to see Changeling and Phibes. |

I also really like Creature From The Black Lagoon. I am of course partial to monster movies and i just found this one very well done. Along with movies like Gojira, Rodan, and Frankenstein, Creature had a lot of drama and heart mixed in making the monster more then just a special effect and an actual character. Quote:
Changeling and Phibes are excellent. You should really check them out. |

Saw Frankenstein 31 the other night. The beginning is fantastic. Great directing and acting, the sets and tesla coils/tech and sounds are great. The last half isn't as interesting. Still in my top 20, but hard to say about Top 7.
Saw TCSM a few nights ago. The directing is more impressive than I remember. Hooper has so many moving (camera moving L/R) shots that I didn't notice before. It's certainly horrifying. Did I "like it"? Not as much this time. It's a horrible film, in the sense it's a horrible subject: not much depth, the girl escapes, but the bad guys don't lose and the good guy doesn't win. It's an effective horror film, no doubt. Top 7 for me? Not sure. I might replace Frankenstein 31 and TCSM... I might be more certain with the top quality of this list. Seven days to Spooky Day: Day1: Psycho 60 Day 2: Night of the Living Dead 68 Day 3: The Exorcist 73 Day 4: Halloween 78 (or The Fly 86) Day 5: Alien 79 Day 6: The Thing 82 Day 7: Evil Dead II 87 |
What was I going on about?
Phantasm Halloween Dracula Nosferatu 13 Ghosts The Fog Night of the Living Dead Although that is just a quickie list. But they are all really highly regarded by me for various reasons. |
Off the top of my head in no particular order but trying to represent the major categories:
• Night of the Living Dead [1968] • The Exorcist [1973] • Halloween [1978] • The Shining [1980] • Alien [1979] • Paranormal Activity [2007] the last is a tie between • Carrie [1976] & • The Omen [1976] |
