When I was a kid, the original Phantasm poster scared the SHIT out of me!

I've always been mildly obsessed with Polish movie posters in general, but the horror ones are some of the best:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...sdjo1_1280.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ien-polish.jpg That's Rosemary's Baby and Aliens, respectively. And then there are some African (Nigeria and Ghana in particular, it seems) horror posters that are the other end of baffling (Thanks Ferox for turning me on to these). I don't even know what's going on: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lvnZZtKdSx...rs+Dracula.jpg http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IATbMT_QRG...s1600/Cujo.jpg http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XHILwf1eid...Ghost+SHip.JPG I'd recommend a deep Google Image search on both of these; there's lots of insane, amazing stuff out there. |
Cujo looks so friendly!

Some of these are for movies I haven't seen yet (most obviously the second one).

I absolutely love movie posters. I wish my wife would let me wallpaper the entire house with them.
Fortunato, those Polish ones are insane. Lately I've been into alternative movie posters, which are essentially either fan art or commissioned art for events or sale. http://www.mondoarchive.com/ is a site that sells these, although almost all the posters are sold out. Here are some that I've collected from Google images and use as rotating desktop wallpaper on my computer. Since we can only post 5 at a time, I'll start with a set by artist Ken Taylor. http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psa47347f3.jpg http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...pse73721c5.jpg http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psd0333bed.jpg http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9ec8d7e.jpg http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psfefe4901.jpg |
Those are fantastic! I especially like the Halloween, Beatlejuice and Poltergeist.

Here's a set of various artists doing The Shining. Laz Marquez: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psb1f41436.jpg Iron Jaiden: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psee9280af.jpg Jeff Kleinsmith: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55c2af91.jpg We Buy Your Kids: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2f0cc8d7.jpg Ben Whitesell: http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...pse102fcf0.jpg |
I love that Iron Jaiden one... it's reminiscent of 1970s book illustrations.

This really cracked me up!
http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/...psb1f41436.jpg It's an excellent concept and design! I think the rug is what gets me to laugh (in contrast to the axe wielding Jack). I wonder if the design would have been even better with the "N" door having a larger, more jagged crack, which would make both the "N" and reference more pronounced, and I think more visually interesting. I love subtlety, but not for subtleties sake; plus a the movie poster medium favors immediate visual realization (even if it's subconscious, it's easily visually captured). Would also be interesting with the "N" being the elevator doors opening, with the blood splurge creating the "N" triangles. But then you'd lose the axe connection. The skull maze, typed page, and wolf in the map, are great ideas and designs! It'd be interesting to see the maze (of the skull maze) match the carpet design more inside the skull, and then have the skull look more evil and deranged. I like the figure in the maze, but might as well make it more related and menacing by either giving it an axe, or put it in the ending frozen pose. |

Yeah I love that carpet design. Such a great scene with Danny on the Big Wheel. Brilliant choice by Kubrick to take advantage of the environment he's filming in. |
Maybe it's dyslexia, but I didn't even notice the N was backwards.
Yes, I thought the black triangle at the top left was the chopped "Here's Johnny" door. Now that you mention it, I think you're right; I don't think that was his intention at all. But it should have been. = ) My mind tends to see a lot of interlacing references in things. Sometimes more than was intended (obviously). But it helps me make my radio show. Funny the N is backwards, cause now it matches the Here's Johnny chopped out of the door. Your guess at the N being backwards due to redrum is probably right. |
I thought I'd post a few more alternative movie posters. These are by Alex Pardee.

Ones above very underground comic book like.
I always thought these were impressive: http://www.modernprimate.com/wordpre...eep-poster.jpg http://typophile.com/files/1_4290.jpg |
